After transcription, text is automatically inserted at the cursor in the active app. This feature requires Accessibility permission.
How It Works
- Tota reads the cursor position and the character before it via macOS Accessibility APIs.
- It determines whether to capitalize the first letter (start of field or after
.!?). - It selects a spacing strategy and inserts the text.
- The original clipboard contents are saved before pasting and restored after 0.5 seconds.
Clipboard Restoration
Tota saves whatever is on your clipboard before pasting transcribed text, then restores it after 0.5 seconds. Your copied content is never lost.
Wrong-Window Protection
If you switch to a different app between stopping a recording and the transcription finishing, Tota won't paste into the wrong window. Instead, the text is placed on your clipboard and an on-screen prompt asks you to press Cmd+V wherever you want it.
Disabling Auto-Paste
Go to Settings > Dictation > Behavior and toggle Auto-paste after transcription off. Transcribed text will still appear in the Home tab history and can be copied manually.
